PG&E CRIT 45+ 1/2/3 2nd Place

PG&E Crit
45+ 1/2/3 (mixed with the 55+)
Team Mates: Ted & Duane
Finish: 2nd (total field ~30, 50-50 45+ & 55+)

First, as always, I must thank my family for their enduring support
and freedom to pursue my puny competitive ambitions. In this case, as
you will see below, the support was very close. Second, I would like
to thank all of our team-mates & club members, in particular Ted &
Duane who were there today and helped me a great deal, and who are
among my best friends. Third, I would like to thank my dear and
precious coach, Marcus, whom it has been a great fun to train with
this year.

Small field, felt good and took one of the earlier primes with a good 400yd
lead. Duane, Ted and I rode easily at the front and received various
compliments. With 4 to go Rick Martyn jumps again, after a few other
attempts. He has a very strong diesel engine and won Zamora 2 years ago.
I hesitated a bit unfortunately, but as he pulled away I slipped
off the front taking a Sierra Nevada guy with me. Duane did a
phenomenal job in riding at the front of the pack behind controlling
while we pulled further away and chased Rick. Unfortunately we
couldn’t catch him. The Sierra Nevada guy was suffering a bit and did
not work too hard. To thank me for my harder work he pulled the final
half lap and let me sit on his wheel, allowing me to take the sprint
for second easily (well, I am really not fast so I guess it was not
really a sprint!).

Praise the Lord for a blessed, complete and perfect day with family
and friends. How fortunate we are.

Stefano
